Richie Hawtin, Detroit Techno DJ, plays the Red Box on the 3rd of December.
Richie Hawtin began his early years in the London suburb of Windsor and moved to Canada with his parents when he was nine. Hawtin showed an early interest in music, especially electronic pop and dance music and his interest turned to fascination when he heard the sounds being pumped out of Detroit.
Hawtin took his first tentative steps into DJing in 1987, quickly getting embroiled in Detroit's tight-knit community of musicians and producers. Combing early influences from European groups like Kraftwerk and New Order with the minimalist techno vision of Juan Atkins and Derrick May, Hawtin's created his own very innovative brand of Motor City mayhem.
With John Acquaviva, Hawtin started Plus 8, a record label that is now recognised as one of the most influential experimental dance music imprints. Hawtin's releases a Plastikman and F.U.S.E are regarded as some of the most ambitious and intelligent releases to come out of the Detroit scene.
A DJ of renown and growing repute and one of experimental music's most innovative figure, Richie Hawtin plays the Red Box on the 3rd.
