Howl At 50 is a celebration of world-famous poet and Beat artist, Allen Ginsberg. This special event will take place at the Sugar Club on 5th January at 8pm. A host of Irish artists and celebrities will be present to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the first reading of his epic poem, Howl.
Howl at 50 will include many readings from Ginsberg's work with Tommy Tiernan reading the epic poem Howl. This poem when first performed resulted in owner of the City Lights bookshop being arrested on obscenity charges. Howl was the great expression of Beat Defiance and considered to be one of the most significant products of the Beat literary movement.
This momentous night out in Dublin is in aid of the Dublin branch of Down Syndroms Ireland. Howl at 50 will see popular Irish comedian, Tommy Tiernan joined be the legendary BP Fallon who will play a musical tribute to Ginsberg post reading. Other Irish celebrities and artists who will read Ginsberg's work at the Sugar Club include Fergus Finlay, Tony Curtis and Dermod Moore.
