Plane

Plane, a group exhibition curated by Mark Garry, takes pace in Gallery II and III at the RHA from July 21st to August 27th.

The fourth exhibition in a series of "artists curated" exhibition programmed by Patrick Murphy at the RHA.

Plane is curated by Mark Garry and features the work of Karl Burke, Robert Carr, Paul McKinley, Christophe Neumann, Jennifer Phelan, Martha Quinn, Robert Watkins, Nina Canell and A=apple.

Plane presents a number of exciting young Irish based artists whose practises vary in form and sensibility while showing a consistency in that they each prioritise innate levels of engagement with materials both physically and metaphorically.

The artists work with a broad variety of materials with the works employing traditional mediums such as stone, paint and wood and re-appropriate a wide variety of non-materials such as reel-to-reel tapes and plastic bottles.

Plane also reflects the curator's passion for music by including a 10" vinyl recording that will accompany the exhibition catalogue.

The recordings is by A=apple, a band that the curator, Karl Burke and Nina Hynes formed a number of years ago. For this recording the band collaborated with the American cellist, Kim Porcelli and percussionist, Pete Pamf.

Mark Garry, the curator of Plane, is an artist, curator and writer based in Dublin. Garry was one of the artists chosen to represent Ireland in last year's Venice Biennial and he is currently exhibiting work at Gallery II in the Douglas Hyde Gallery.

An exciting glimpse into contemporary art practise in Ireland, Plane shows at the RHA from July 21st to August 27th.
