Situated in the basement of a fine Georgian house in Dublin's Merrion Square the Hallward Gallery is a privately run Gallery showing contemporary Irish art.
The gallery opened in 1991 and has developed from the Director Mary Tuohy's love of fine art and ongoing experience of the Irish Art world.
The Gallery's policy is to encourage and exhibit the best of contemporary fine art and to provide a platform for emerging young artists.
Shows are mainly solo exhibitions lasting about three weeks and the gallery also hosts three group exhibition a year which include invited artists.
The Gallery also acts as an agent for artists such as Christopher Banahan, John Behan RHA, Sandra Bell and Carmel Benson promoting their work at home and abroad.
Skill and diversity are keywords in the Gallery concept and they are displayed in the rich variety of style and subject matter covered by the Gallery's artists. Recent exhibitions have included works by Bernadette Madden, Mary Donnelly, Linda Shevlin and John Brennan.
