To celebrate their annual children's arts festival Spréacha 2008, Draíocht Arts Centre in Blanchardstown have invited five fantastic visual artist to get in touch with their own inner children and create specially commissioned pieces based around the concept of play.
It's a fitting theme, given that most children's first experience of art is messing about with a box of paints and a jam-jar of water, making a mess and generally having a great time. In fact, most artists never really lose that sense of fun and excitement that comes from experimenting to see what they can create - that's what makes them artists!
Each artist, of course, deals with the theme from their own unique perspective - and with five very different creative minds working on the project, that makes for some very exciting, fun and thought provoking pieces. Writer Tim Stott has also brought his point of view into the mix byresponding to each piece with text elaborating on each piece, and allowing the viewer to appreciate the pieces on a new level.
So don't miss your chance to celebrate all things fun and fanciful - pop into Draíocht Arts Centre and indulge YOUR inner child for a few moments. Remember, as George Bernard Shaw said "We don't stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing".
