Cycling in Dublin
01-Jan-2003 to: 01-Jan-2003
Given the traffic situation of Dublin, cycling can be one of the fastest ways to get around the city, if not necessarily the safest. Novices to cycling in Dublin should try to avoid travelling along the quays or in the very centre of the city (around O'Connell Bridge), where traffic is very dense and cyclists don't have much room.

If you do cycle, remember:

·          Stick to cycle-paths where provided. All bus lanes are also designated cycle-lanes.

·          When locking your bike, use a designated bike park, not the railings of buildings (bikes locked there can be removed) or signposts.

There are bike parks along the central island of O'Connell St, at either end of Grafton St, on College Green (in front of Trinity College), on Dawson St, in Temple Bar, and dotted around many other areas of the city.

·          Don't cycle down pedestrianised streets like Grafton St. Cyclists will also have to jump off their bikes in city parks like Stephen's Green and Merrion Square (cycling is fine of course in the Phoenix Park).

·          It goes without saying: always wear a helmet and reflective gear/lights.
