The numbers of taxi's on Dublin's roads has almost tripled since deregulation.

There are now over 12,000 taxis and over 1,200 hackney cabs available in Dublin city. This means travelling by taxi will be almost effortless in comparison to a few years ago when there were only a paltry 2,700 taxis in operation on Dublin roads.

Top tips when travelling by Taxi in Dublin include always get an estimate of the fare to your destination before you get in. Taxi's have become much more customer friendly with the majority of Dublin cabs providing a receipt printer. Receipts will show all the general details of your journey including the cab number, the fare including any extra charges, the time taken and the distance travelled.

If you can try to avoid travelling during the morning and evening rush periods (8am-9.30am & 5-7pm), not to mention at lunchtime, do so. However if you are moving at these times and let's face it, you probably will be, do give yourself plenty of leeway.
