Hughes & Hughes

Hughes & Hughes stores are on the increase.

Hughes & Hughes is an Irish Bookseller who hosts many book signings in the recently refurbished flagship store in St. Stephen's Green Shopping Centre. There are currently four high street stores including Dublin's only specialist Children's bookshop 'Hughes & Hughes Junior' on the top floor of the St Stephen's Green Shopping Centre.

This Irish company also trades out of six sites at Dublin Airport and is one of the few Irish based retailers to open a store outside Ireland – at London City Airport. Plans to expand will be fulfilled when a new Hughes and Hughes opens at Shannon Airport in December 2003.

This Irish bookseller also plays an active role in encouraging creative writing. In conjunction with the Sunday Independent, Hughes & Hughes are proud to announce the Irish Novel of the Year Award 2003.  Each Sunday for  six weeks, the Sunday Independent will pick four titles that reflect themes of Irish life and three judges; Niall MacMonagle, Ann Walsh and Helen Carr will collectively chose their favourite novel which will go forward to the final shortlist.

The final shortlist of six novels will be completed by a second judging panel who will decide upon a winner. A presentation will be held on the 2nd December 2003  and a specially commissioned trophy along with a prize of €7,000  will be awarded to the overall winner.

Last year the award was a huge success, with John McGahern picking up the award for his brilliant novel That They May Face the Rising Sun. The Hughes & Hughes Novel of the Year Award focuses on Irish fiction which is world famous for its quality and individuality.
