The railway from Dublin to Dun Laoghaire was opened in 1934 and was followed two years later by the terminus at the destination. The station was designed by John Skipton Mulvaney, the same architect who designed Broadstone Station. In the late 1990s the station was extended and modernised but the original front building has been retained and now operates as a restaurant.
