The size of the 5-sail white plastered windmill is impressive and its internal machinery is in full working order. Its 4-sail companion is smaller but more rustic with its bare stone walls and thatched roof. Internally, the watermill, housed in an extensive range of stone buildings, is perhaps the most fascinating.

An extremely complex series of cogs and shafts powered by the waterwheel turn or operate a complex series of machines, wheels, grindstones, elevators and hoists. Every function is graphically explained in each of the specialist rooms including the bakery, the main engine room, the miller's office, the weigh room, the kiln room and in various grinding and storage lofts.  The mills originated in the early 16th century and were restored by FÁS and the Fingal County Council.
