Dublin Underground Walking Tour
Dublin is essentially not an underground city. The many revolutions in the city were never serviced by runners using the sewers, as were those in Paris or Warsaw.

Summary
Few houses even possess a cellar, although those built in the Georgian period had basements to contain the kitchen, pantry, wine cellar and the coal supply.  The city has no metro or underground railway, but there is talk of one being constructed sometime in the mid 2000s.  There are, of course, sewers – some very large indeed – and culverted rivers criss-crossing the city underneath your feet.  Subterranean places such as these are usually closed to the public, but you will stand over them and let your imagination and some facts transport you into their depths; and there are still many opportunities for going 'down under' for the intrepid underground walker.

Start:  Gresham Hotel, O'Connell Street.
DART: Connolly Station.
Buses: most city centre buses are within a few minutes' walk.
Car parking: use the Gresham Hotel multistorey car park, or any one of several others in the neighbourhood.

Finish:  The Cellar Bar, Merrion Street.
DART: Pearse Station.
Buses: 10, 11, 13.
Car parking: adequate on-street metered spaces.

Length:  6.8 km (4.25 miles).  You can rearrange the route and shorten it to suit yourself if you wish.
Time:  2 hours.
Refreshments:  There is no shortage of refreshment points along the route.
Pathway Status:  Wear comfortable and flat shoes for easy walking on steps and stairs.
Best Time to Visit:  Only during the opening hours of the selected sites.
Suitable for Bicycles:  Only if the bicycle has a good lock, because you won't be able to take it into any of the underground venues.
