The Liffey Voyage takes you on a tour of Dublin's famous river.
The Liffey stands at the centre of Dublin's history, a once bustling waterway. The city was built around the river's trade. The river also plays a pivotal role in Irish literary history, with the Liffey flowing into the opening and ending of James Joyce's famous novel, Finnegans Wake.
Now, the Liffey Voyage affords you to chance to traverse this famous river and learn about the fascinating sights and stories of Anna Livia.
The Liffey Voyage departs from a landing station off the boardwalk at Bachelors Walk and passes O'Connell Bridge, Butt Bridge and the Talbot Memorial Bridge on a journey downstream, passing the Custom House in Dublin's Dockland. The cruise reaches the East Link Toll Bridge and the Grand Canal Basin before returning up river to Bachelors Walk.
The Liffey Voyage boat, Spirit of Docklands was built in Sweden and is a 50-passenger low profile boat, 23 metres long and capable of travelling 9.5 knots. The Liffey Voyage is operated by Killary Cruises, a company that has been running spectacular sight seeing cruises of Killary Fjord in Galway since 1998.
Over the last century the focus of the city has moved away from one of its great attractions, the River Liffey. The Liffey Voyage is an initiative of the Docklands Authority's River Regeneration Strategy, which aims to bring back life to the River Liffey.
The River Regeneration Strategy includes the famine replica ship, the Jeannie Johnston as a visitor attraction and the redevelopment of the Dublin City Moorings to provide accommodation for super-yachts and vessels at Custom House Quays.
An intriguing insight into the history of Dublin's legendary waterway, The Liffey Voyage is well worth a look.
