For its size Dublin has produced more than its share of famous citizens and residents over the years. Visit the places where they were born and where they lived on this tour.
Summary
Dublin city boasts no fewer than four Nobel prizes for Literature awarded to its progeny: George Bernard Shaw, William Butler Yeats, Samuel Beckett and Seamus Heaney. Of course there have been legions of other writers besides.
Countless Dublin poets, painters, musicians, medical practitioners, soldiers, politicians, scientists and entrepreneurs have also made their mark on the domestic and the international stage.
However on this itinerary you will specifically encounter a very varied coterie of Dublin's distinguished offspring and adopted sons and daughters. The walk starts in an inner city suburb on the banks of the Grand Canal only a short bus ride from the centre of Dublin, then twists and coils its way to within a stone's throw of Trinity College.
Start: Portobello College, South Richmond Street.
Buses 14, 14A, 15A, 15B, 47, 47A, 47B, 83.
DART Station: None.
Car parking: only two-hour disk parking.
Finish: Adams Trinity Hotel, Dame Lane.
Buses: a few minutes' walk to all city centre bus routes.
Car parking: at Trinity Street car park.
Length: 2 miles (3.2 kilometres)
Time: 1.25 hours
Refreshments: You will be passing a couple of good pubs but for restaurants you will have to wait until you are near the end of the walk.
Pathway Status: Roadside pavements.
Best Time to Visit: Any time but watch the visiting hours of the three museums on the trip.
