No trip to Dublin is complete without a visit to the Guinness Storehouse (and, obviously, no Dubliner worth his salt can hold his head high in an Irish pub until he's accompanied at least three different sets of visiting relatives to the Storehouse)! The brewery was famously founded by Arthur Guinness 1759, when he signed a 9,000 year lease at £45 a year (bargain)! The Storehouse building itself dates back to 1904.
The building was listed as derelict for over a decade, before being cleverly rennovated and redesigned to bring the history of one of Irelands mopst famous exports into the present. In 2000, the Guinness Storehouse was reopened as a terrific exhibition space - and eagle-eyed visitor will noticed its particularly unique design, becuase the thirty-metre-high glass atrium is shaped like a giant pint. In fact, if they filled it up, it would hold 14.3 million pints!
!
With the seven massive floors of exposed brick and girders (once the cast-iron beams were used to support the weight of huge vats of Guinness) it's a suitably imposing and impressive structure - with lots of room inside to house everything from the exciting Visitor Experience to a fantastic gift shop, as well as three bars and, on occasion, some fantastic visiting exhibitions.
The Visitor Experience lasts just under two hours. In that time, guests will learn pretty much all about there is to know about brewing process and the raw materials that go into making every single pint of Guinness, as well as discovering just how far and wide Guiness has really travelled, and getting a glimpse at some of the memorable advertising campaigns used over the years. There's even a chance to watch the first Guinness TV ads (themed 'My Goodness, My Guinness') from the '50s.
After enjoying the Visitor Experience, guests can enjoy a delicious evening meal in the Brewery Bar (open from 12.00 - 16.00) or sit back with a complimentary pint of the black stuff and drink in the view from Gravity Bar, the venue's rooftop bar with unrivalled 360º views across Dublin city out to the mouth of the Irish Sea.
So don't miss a truly Irish experience at the Guinness Storehouse - you'll be glad you went!
