The Oliver St. John Gogarty pub is a famous Dublin pub located in the very popular Temple Bar. The pub takes it's name from one of Dublin's most renowned poets, politicians, pilot and avid fan of Guinness. Tourists and Dubliners alike can enjoy terrific Irish sets of traditional music and the restaurant upstairs is worth trying for anyone who is a fan of Irish cuisine. The Oliver St. John Gogarty Restaurant is on the second floor. The restaurant prides itself on top quality traditional Irish food, and excellent and friendly service. Head Chef, Mick Caul expertise in traditional Irish cuisine secured him the position of Head Chef just after one year of working at Gogarty's. He had previously trained in Dublin and Portugal. The guarantee that Mick supervises every meal that is prepared and is cooked to perfection has ensured that many diners return time and time again to the restaurant. The menu is very comprehensive and some of the dishes date back to the 1800's.
The Starters are extensive including a plate of fresh mussels, fresh salmon or some Dublin coddle. There is equally as wide a choice in the main courses. Chef Mick Caul draws on different parts of Ireland and presents dishes that are renowned in particular areas. Galway Prawns Provencale €28.95 (prawns served in a tomato based white wine sauce with shallots) Wicklow lamb (racked) €25.95 served with stuffing and Gogarty's special mint sauce are some of the delectable dishes on offer. And of course there is the traditional Gogarty's Irish Stew €16.95 that is very popular among the tourists.
Gogarty's has been acknowledged for their high quality of food and service and were awarded the prestigious Dining Pub of the Year 2003 award. Food is served in the bar 7 days a week for those whose tastes are a little less formal. A carvery lunch operates daily from 12.00 to 3.30pm and thereafter an extensive bar food menu is available until 10.30pm.
Oliver St John Gogarty's may be famous for it's pints, but on the second floor any diner will enjoy the excellent restaurant located in Dublin's city centre.
