Peploes is a popular Dublin wine bistro.
The former owner of Browne's Brasserie, Barry Canny opened Peploes almost two years ago. Canny's inspiration for the restaurant came from an expensive art gallery in Bond Street in London. He was fascinated by the work of a Scottish Colourist named S.J Peploe.
The restaurant itself has a cosmopolitan and international feel even though it is located in the heart of Georgian Dublin. Peploes is based in a former security vault on the top of Dawson Street.
Polished limestone countertops and circular table-tops adorn this contemporary Dublin restaurant. The flooring is mellow old oak and the leather chairs are hand-stitched enhancing this fine upmarket restaurant. There's a relaxed bistro feel at Peploes that makes it very comfortable for Dublin diners.
The dining area has the effect of a very polished and contemporary banqueting room seating 56 guests and displaying a colourful mural including celebrities from Liz Hurley to ex-president of the U.S., Bill Clinton.
Peploes opens 12am through to 10.30pm, offering 164 different fine wines, with 24 available by the glass and a comfortable wine bar. From 3pm-10.30pm the wine bar serves a small plates menu offering delights such as croquettes a l'Americaine. Lots of savoury staples such as a bowl of mussels or a charcuterie platter can be enjoyed on this casual menu. A full dinner menu is available from 6pm seven days a week.
