The 'Do Something Positive' DIY Festival brings an exciting programme of events to the Project Arts Centre on Saturday, the 31st of July.
The DIY scene has been an active and evolving scene in Dublin over the last decade. Band members, events organisers, filmmakers and artists have been pooling their skills to facilitate a more independent approach to getting their work to the public. DIY communities throughout Europe and America have created a broader network of different communities who have begun to facilitate the proliferation of underground art and culture around the world. Now a festival in Dublin celebrates DIY culture and aims to create a sustainable underground DIY community with a programme featuring workshops, discussions, live bands and video showings.
The DIY Festival workshops cover how to organise an event, the advantages of cycling, the world of vegetarian health and cooking and how to start a band, record and tour. There will also be workshops on how to create posters covering stencils, screen printing, flyer making and block printing. The DIY Festival will screen a number of videos on the global phenomenon of DIY culture featuring Pickaxe, DIY or Die and Between Resistance + Community: The Long Island DIY Punk Scene. A number of Dublin's up-and-coming DIY bands will be rocking the Project throughout the day and will dish up a musical finale for the DIY Festival.
Well worth a look, the DIY Festival is offering a programme of exciting events that should be both recreational and educational for only €3.
