The Ark

Dublin's Cultural Centre custom designed for Children.

The Ark opened in 1995 as Europe's only custom-designed cultural centre devoted exclusively to innovative arts programming for children. The Ark has spent the last number of years creating high quality introductions to the wonders, delights and possibilities of art for children aged between 4 and 14.

Located at the heart of Temple Bar, The Ark incorporates an indoor theatre that seats 150, an outdoor amphitheatre, a gallery space and a workshop. Through their innovative presentations of plays, exhibitions, workshops, festivals, concerts, readings, opera, dance and multimedia, The Ark has offered children the full benefits of not only looking and listening but also of imaginative interaction and participation.

And children have respond in kind with over 22,000 children and 5,000 adults experiencing an unforgettable visit to The Ark every year. Central to the vision of The Ark is the belief that children have cultural needs and rights that need to be addressed and that the art world has to custom-design their work for children while setting new standards and exploring new dimensions in children's art provision.

Over the last decade, The Ark have enlisted the talents of visiting artists, companies and professionals to create cutting edge shows that have delighted their young audiences. An engaging, challenging and entertaining arts experience that is both educational and recreational, The Ark is guaranteed to be richly rewarding for children and adults alike.
