The Viking Splash Tour is a fun and unique way to see Dublin by land and by water. This fun-filled tour is available daily.
During the tour, the costumed Viking Captains will explain all about how the Vikings first settled in Dublin over 1000 years ago. The highlight of the Tour is when the Viking Captain drives the Viking Splash Vehicle into the waters of the historic Grand Canal Basin.
The 'Tour Bus' is over fifty years old and is a surviving amphibious truck that was first produced during World War II. It's official name was DUKW but on the Viking Splash Tour the Captains refers to this ancient vehicle as his "Duck".
These water-loving vehicles were designed to withstand driving onto beaches in 15 foot seas. Up to 30 troops were carried or 2 ½ tons of cargo and sometimes these trucks were stuck together and used to carry fighter aircraft safely. Some were mounted with a M2 .50 calibre machine gun, others were outfitted with artillery and used as "firing" platforms.
Viking Splash Tours are suitable for all the family, young and old and the entire tour lasts one hour and fifteen minutes. There are two departure points, one at Bull Alley Street beside gardens of St. Patrick's Cathedral and also from Stephen's Green North.
Tickets can be purchased at the Viking Splash website vikingsplash.com. Tickets are also available at the Independent Tourist Office on O'Connell Street.
