If the word "history" conjures up images boring school-books or yawn-inducing tours, then check out the Deilg Inis Living History Theatre Company at Dalkey Castle & Heritage for a hilarious, exhilarating and totally intriguing take on the past!
Take a journey through Medieval and Victorian times, in the company of a whole host of characters who've been there, done that and would've bought the t-shirt if only t-shirts had been invented back then.
Master Cheevers will show you the battlements, the murder hole and the secrets of the castle, then stick around as Saidbh the medieval housekeeper prepares a meal of baked hedgehog perhaps or dressed swan. Magnus Maxwell, the local barber/surgeon may be on hand for a quick tooth extraction, chilling amputation or worse, or maybe you'll meet Biddy Deasy the Healer who'll have a cure from the fairies to dull the ache. Just be careful not to speak the Gaelic tongue or Rupert the Archer will commit thee to the pillars!
So take a step back in time with a historical (and hysterical) visit to Ireland's only public-access fortified Town House. Oh, and don't worry about that infamous ye olde personal hygiene, everyone's already taken their annual bath - whether they needed it or not!!
