A colourful exhibition of illustrated poems is on permanent display at Draiocht.
Last year, Draiocht arranged for 9 schools in Dublin 15 to work with a children's writer, exploring the world of poetry together and trying their hand at writing their own poems.
Taking the title Filiocht O Draiocht, the project enlisted the literary talents of children writers, Aine Ni Ghlinn, Aishlinn O'Loughlin, Mae Leonard, Gina Moxley, Larry O'Loughlin and Seamus Cashman.
The schools who participated included Scoil Bhride Girls, Scoil Bhride Boys, Scoil Oilibheir, Scoil Mhuire Sinsear, Mulhuddart National School, Sacred Heart National School, Castleknock Educate Together, St. Francis Xavier Snr NS and St. Philip the Apostle Snr NS.
The excitement and inspiration created by the project can be seen in the poem, Tommy's Little Fall, the imaginative tale of a flying pig who has an unfortunate fall and turns to reading books, studying in college and receives a Piggy Philosophical Higher Degree for inventing a piggy flying machine.
Other poetic delights featured in the exhibition includes Cool Granny, Running Late, The Blakestown Rap, The Wizard's Choice, St Phillip's Poetic Playground, Farmer Joe, Yo Ghost and The Jordan Blues.
When each class and their new mentor finished creating the poem, Draiocht handed them over to four professional illustrators, Alan Clarke, Adrienne Geoghegan, Sarah Kernaghan and Olwyn Whelan, to create a picture for the story of each poem.
The resulting combinations are now permanently displayed in Draiocht as tribute to the creativity of the children of 15 and a way of enabling them to permanently make a mark on Draiocht.
Wonderful poems with inspired illustrations, Filiocht O Draiocht is well worth a look.
