During the restoration of Abbey Lodge, much attention to detail was given to the building’s original architectural features. One of the more remarkable features is the lodge’s original Gothic stonework that was removed from a building designed by the well-known architect Pugin, who was responsible for the design of the local cathedral and many more notable buildings.

In 2000, Abbey Lodge was refurbished and extended to provide luxurious en suite accommodation. Much of the slate and stone used came from historic local buildings. Tastefully decorated, the lodge has a collection of fine art and antiques, which were once features of the great homes of this historic region. The lounge offers a PC and tea/coffee-making facilities. For breakfast, guests can choose pancakes, waffles, a traditional cooked breakfast or a continental buffet breakfast.
