Polly Scattergood is a rare talent, a musician who can make the disturbing sound delightful.
Polly Scattergood is a rare talent, a musician who can make the disturbing sound delightful. She might sing about suicidal tendencies, sadness in the air, spitting on her French knickers and being called a whore, but she does so in such an idiosyncratically alluring, soft little-girl voice, one of ravaged innocence, and she places her startling images in such pretty pop contexts, that you can’t help being seduced.
Built around fractious yet delicate guitar and piano (she plays a stylophone and accordion too), Polly Scattergood's peculiar talent conjures up a looking glass world where nothing is quite how it first appears to be. More creative than a person has a right to be, Polly writes brilliantly unsettling odd pop and will soon unveil a live show that is as arresting and powerful as her recordings.
Scattergood is already making waves across the Atlantic and is poised to make a huge splash in America. NME calls "I Hate The Way" "massive, ascending and fragile, like it's made from crystals." Scattergood has been a guest on the UK's Radio 1, Radio 2, BBC6 London, XFM, Q Radio and continues to garner UK radio support. She has been featured in The Sun UK, The Independent UK, Time Out London and as an artist to watch by Black Book Magazine. The current UK single "Other Too Endless" is also Steve Lamaq's BBC1 Single Of The Week for the week of February 2, 2009 and Artist Of The Week for the week of February 9, 2009.
“I don’t see myself as a singer-songwriter, or even a singer,” says 22 year-old Scattergood. "I would describe myself as a songwriter who sings.”
